Autumn in the Netherlands

I always look forward to the change of seasons. I particularly love autumn. Unfortunately, autumn in the Netherlands (nor in the UK) is not as spectacular as the ones I experienced in Boston--where the foliage plays an amazing array of red, yellow and orange colours. Nevertheless, the coming of fall has some tranquil, sometimes pensive effect on me. This year, the change of season particularly reminded me that I have been in Holland for three months!. What have I been doing during those 3 restless months?? I was happy to head out of town last weekend. Hubby and I spent the weekend with our friends P&P. The last time I saw them was in January, in the Philippines, when they attended our wedding. Afterwhich, they left for France, while hubby and I flew back to to the Netherlands and the UK, respectively.
We stayed at P&P's chalet near the area of Apeldoorn--P&P's cosy home when they are in the Netherlands. The weekend was a good opportunity to catch up, laze about and take nice relaxing walks. Since I met hubby, I have learned to appreciate walking through the forest without ever asking "where will this lead to?". Hubby was actually surprised that I did not even complain after walking for more than an hour. Nature has a special way of calming my senses. I enjoyed hearing P&P's escapades in France. I admire them for their sense of adventure and openess to new experiences, and as long as they are together, everything is secondary. Somehow, last weekend reminded me of the reason why I am here in the Netherlands, and perhaps in due time everything will just fall into place.
Waterfall? of course with the stairways!
The heath...and loads of mushrooms
